try and put a piece of cardboard over the radiator say half of it and see if that makes a difference, I used to do that in the Torana to get it warmer in winter

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

brings back memorys of the HQ days in winter the old forsale sign in the radiator LOL.there was nothing worse than coming upto a corner at 100 and lifting off the gas and the throttle staying open cause it was frozen LOL
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

Yeah might be coz it actually is too cold, was like -5 today in the morning. doors all frozen to the car, had to pry it open and use water. Glass frozen shut, windows would not move.
got to the petrol station and the door refroze and I has to ram it to get out lol. My car was the most frozen by far on the road today, its just where I live makes frost very severe.
but still during the day it will be around 10 marks so not that cold it should make issues. Like I said the VR has no probs, I would say its been the fastest warming car thus far I've had. 5-10 min and its toasty.

I agree with the other guys though that if the thermostat is working properly it should regulate the temp!

it does regular, just colder than the advertised temp.
its does keep it constant though. I am going to pick up intake gaskets from Holden tomorrow as the ones from repco are junk (wasted my money).
So while I am at it, ill get a stat if I can. I bet a genuine one will work better.
I am finding more and more OEM aftermarket parts are totally junk so it wouldn't suprize me that all the stats are crap that I have bought.

When you first start the car, check to see how quickly the top radiator hose starts to warm up, if the thermostat is working properly it should stay cold until the engine is up to running temp, if it starts to warm up fairly quickly the thermostat is opening to soon.
Double check your heater tap, if it is the 4 hose set up I would try blocking the little hose that runs from the intake manifold down to the water pump. Engine will heat up quicker.

heater tap is 2 hose type, works fine as I check by putting my hand on the heater core pipes under the dash, stone cold until I turn the heater knob.
I will check how the rad hose feels when I get a chance, last time I checked it stayed cold for awhile and started to feel warm after 5-10min of idle, which I find most cars do as there is some small flow through the bleed hole.

also if you have a temp probe, but a saucepan on the stove with a thermostat in it and monitor it to see what temp it starts to open at ...

yeah tied that before, not on mine but some new stats for the fords, they didn't open in the boiling water and some did but all worked fine in the cars

Yeah I think it is the stat, -2ºc this morning, few min of running and the radiator and hose were warm even though the temp gauge still was on stone cold.
If this indeed is the case, I have had 3 or 4 failed stats in a row? The last few stats worked then after 6 months the would go cold again.
China?
