VR V8 Problem

Post by AJS85 »

Bit of a problem has come up on my VR V8 car was running fine and was parked up for about a week.

Went to get in it and start and it started but sounded like it was not running on all 8 cylinders.
So I had look under the bonnet and cylinders 2,4,8 and 7 are not firing and pushing A lot of fuel out the exhaust.

The Dizzy/Leads/Plugs are still producing spark (tried new plugs also). Idle is still at around 850rpm but the timing is over 18 advanced when not in diagnostic mode,
and didn't want to run enough in diagnostic mode to see what it is doing.

There are no error codes coming up by the ecu (which is weird as it should be saying extremely to rich due to the unburnt fuel).

Would A failure of the ecu cause the flooding of the cylinders? failure of the injectors/fuel pressure?

Just weird how it was driving and running fine with no warning of this failure.

Just wondering how long you have run it for after the problem. Might be the lifters have leaked down and just need time to pump up.

you probably haven't had it running long enough to get the oxygen sensor to read, but if its in diag mode and shows a code 12 that means the ecu is running and probably not the issue....

also with diag mode you can usually get it to work with a few more revs, and it will lock the advance at 10 degrees till you rev it over 2500rpm I think it is, or 2000, either way should be enough to get it to idle.... also a trick I use get a cable tie and sandwich it between the idle screw and the butterfly stop, will give you a good 500rpm more or there abouts, works well when you don't have a friend to help with it.

Hi I would check the terminals at the pcm or maybe the pcm itself.
As injectors 2,4,7,8 run off one wire and 1,3,5,6 run off another.

Thanks for the help so far guys.
It was running a good 5mins so should be able to rule the lifters for now.

I will check the wiring and get it running in diag mode once I get my spare starter motor back since it decided to die.

If you have a noid light just check if it glows bright on the cylinders in question with ign on and engine not running the grounding circuit is going to ground via wiring or the ecu.

Check for a broken valve spring.

oh yeah, Let me tell you how bad an engine runs with just one broken spring. It can barley run at WOT if its an intake spring
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Got another problem with the V8, seems it doesn't want to idle (revs drop below the 800 and then stalls) if I hold the accelerator down just a tad it's fine.
This happens either when driving or sitting in the driveway.
Did a log
idle.xdl
(11.44 KiB) Downloaded 204 times
No errors, but looks like the O2 sensor is playing up.
Could there be a problem with the IAC?

any idea's would be good.
