Holen ECU info

Post by Charlescrown »

Just wanting to know when Holden 6 went to flash chips. Was it VX? and how hard is it to read and write to them?

yeah thats correct for V6, and the LS1 i believe was the start of flash for the V8's.

as far as i am aware reading and writing is as simple as having the right cable and software .... not sure haven't actually done it myself though.

They changed over in the VX.

For VX, VU and VY V6 all you need is the flashtool and an ALDL cable  Can read/write the cal section, read/write the entire bin or clone a PCM.

Thanks. I have the ALDL cable (your one) that I use for logging but what flashtool do I need?

So can I assume the flashtool is the software? I was thinking it was another extra unit that interfaced between the car and the ECU.

Correct, it is the small software utility used to read/write bins and cals (write is only for NVRAM or flash PCMs).

Just remember the supercharged V6 in VX & VY are the exception and ate still memcal based and not flash.

Thanks fellas it worked a treat. I just read my VR and looked at the BIN with tunerpro and it's spot on. I now need to buy a VX ECU and have a go reading/writing to it for a bit of fun.

Oh forgot to ask what's the CAL file. I know about BIN's but new to CAL files.
