Re: Holen ECU info
cal files are the start of the flash, with just the calibration. bin is the same but longer and includes the ecu operating system (code). If there is a problem flashing the cal, the ecu will still boot and you can try again. if theres a problem flashing bin you can make a brick. but, problems are not liklely. Its still good form to just flash the cal if thats all you need. If you pick flash cal and choose a bin from disk it'll just flash the calibration part and stop so that is a valid way to do it.
Also for the record its worth noting this is just for the delco ecus. Alloytec and later v6 with the bosch pcms are a different beast.

Re: Holen ECU info
I am a little confused between BIN and CAL but will slowly work it out. If I make changes to the BIN file such as fuel or timing I have to reload the new BIN?? I think. What part of the program is in the CAL file?
Re: Holen ECU info
CAL file contains just the "Calibration" area of the bin, the BIN file contains all the program code and calibration.

Re: Holen ECU info
So can I assume the CAL file will allow changes to fuel and timing?
Re: Holen ECU info
typcially anything you modify that's in an XDF will be in the calibration area.

Re: Holen ECU info
also you will be able to rear/write the cal alot faster than the entire bin!
and for the record Antus with HPT you can upload just the CAL on the Holden Cruze 58 seconds.... i've never done a full bin write so not sure on the time, but its like 3.4mbs so likely take a while!!

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Holen ECU info
So Antus if I download the BIN file, change maps etc save it then click write CAL (or get CAL first) which I think will give me an option of the BIN file to pick it will just load the CAL file part of the BIN.
I tried getting the CAL file from my VR but it's there but everything is empty so I assume you can't just read a CAL file from the ECU but you can reload the CAL file part of that BIN. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I know I cant write to the VR.

Re: Holen ECU info
I know with $12P you can read the cal area and it works fine in Tunerpro.
what you can do is just read the entire bin, then make your changes and then write cal, and then make more changes to the same file and write cal again.

Re: Holen ECU info
So does write CAL give me an option to pick the BIN file where it will come from? I will give the 12P a go I am running it on my Lancer so later today I'll try it. Thanks for all the help.
