Eprom BLHB Auto Trans 5HB9 ECU 16195699

Post by grahamjb »

Gents
I am trying to get my head around a few things and am hoping that someone can assist. Unfortunately I can't say for sure what model of Commodore my engine and ECU are from but the wrecker told me that it was from a VS.

In my first post I explained that I am using a Kalmaker eprom to get my Inter Ute running however it has been suggested/recommended that I could modify an existing Bin file and do away with the Kalmaker eprom which makes sense to me as I don't have the Kalmaker software.

The original Eprom from my 16195699 ECU is labelled BLHB and the auto trans is 5HB9. I have been looking through the pages on this excellent forum but still don't understand what the diffrences are between different eprom bin files. Is there an easy way to compare or see what the different paramaeters are between my BLHB Bin and others eg BWCS, BSAJ and the VR version BJMF?

Thanks
Graham

well BLHB is a VS 5Ltr Auto tune so that sounds like what you have and the ECU number is RFI VS PCM.

I'd agree go stock bin modded and get the hardware needed to tune it yourself without needing kalmaker.

if you have a look here it tells you what memcal codes are for what, http://pcmhacking.net/memcals.html but as for what differences, you'd need to load them up in tunerpro and compare to each other ...

honestly though if you motor is played with and tuned, then the stock ones are all probably not going to be optimal for you!

also if you get the right interface you might be able to read the kalmaker tune from it with the flashtool and then can work back from there ?

Thanks for the reply and recommendation Holden202.

I have bored the engine 30 thou, fitted a 355 stroker kit which uses a stage 2 Dynotec CM307D cam, advanced the valve timing by 2 degrees (as recommended by the suppliers of the stroker kit) and fitted blue Magna injectors which are supposed to be the same as what are fitted to the 5.7 HSV.

When I rebuilt the motor I went for Kalmaker as I didn't know of this Forum. Getting the engine to run was a drama and it took 4 different eprom configs before the engine would run. The selection of what parameters to write to the eprom were hit and miss and seemed to be guesswork by the Kalmaker person doing the eprom selection/burn which gave me the yips and did not inspire any confidence in the results. The eprom that was finally used was labelled HSV 5.7 and is supposedly a standard Commodore HSV 5.7 litre eprom with the VATS disabled. This allows the engine to start, stay running and respond to the throttle , however it does hunt, surge and occasionally stall without any load. (It is a very rich mixture and the plugs are black).

In order to get started would it be a good idea to try one of the Bin files on this forum such as the VS V8 5.0L Auto PCM $A6F Enhanced file by The1 or would I be better to start with the 276crane camVs 5 litre auto bin file or start from scratch?

if it was me I would start with a tune as close as you can get, like the same model hsv 5.7 tune, then adjust it for injectors and cam mods and then tune from there....

do you have a cam card for the dynotec ? duration, lift, rpm range etc ?

Thanks Holden 202 and Delco wizard for the cam specs.
I will see what I can find for a starting file.

Cheers

Could be worth comparing the standard VS V8 and the HSV stroker bin's to see what GM done. Also compare the VE against something like the SV5000 or VP 200kw bin's to see how the small cam altered their VE map's. Set that up in a new 12P bin and start tuning.

Will need to wait for 11P in this case as he is running a 4L60E trans, but there are write enabled $11 bins for the '424 PCM so could set one of them up with an NVRAM and tune away.

So either of these would not be a good file to start with?

BSAJ.zip$83A 5.0L Auto 16195699 (RFI) ECU Police Version, upgrade for 96 Transmission(32.12 KiB) Downloaded 238 times

BWCS9976.zip$83A 5.0L Auto 16195699 (RFI) ECU Police version(32.13 KiB) Downloaded 258 times
