S/C V6 speed sender help required please

Post by Skullator »

Hi , Have a project where i have T5 gearbox behind S/C V6 in a HJ Holden,
i am going to use a vn Speedometer can anyone offer advice on wiring t5 3 wire Hall Effect speedo sensor to vx ecm with 2 wire inductive sensor,
Does the ecm need to see speed pulses?
or can i just put a resistor across D5 and C6 to nullify fault codes?
also Ecm is programmed for Auto is it hard to change Eeprom to Manual
Any advice appreciated
Cheers Mike

For the record the vx normally aspirated pcm is a flash pcm, but the s/c variant you probably have is still the VT S/C (L67) PCM. Its better if the computer can see the speed as it can know if your idling on the spot or rolling to a stop with your foot on the cluch as it'll do different things for idle and deceleration.

details on modding the VN speedo to calibrate speed are here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic. ... 254#p36322

For the computer see the right speed you'd probably need to set the PPK (pulses per km) in the tune. To do this you'd get an ALDL interface ( http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3616 ) and drive the car at a constant speed and watch what the computer is seeing while you measure the real speed on a gps. You then change the PPK by the % the speed is out. When you do this in the tune you would probably want to set the manual trans flag and disable vats.

Im not sure electrically what you need to do (if anything) maybe someone else has those details.

Ive been trying to sus it out. I think the VS computer has different hardware variants and may need modding. But the VT hardware has everything needed so it should work.

To wire an auto loom to the T5:

Hooter wrote: your auto harness can easily be modifyied to suit. Simply reveal auto trans and existing vss wiring, and remove all but the pink wire with blue stripe (auto trans power), and retain the existing 2 vss wires (blue and tan). These become your 3 wire hall effect wiring which are, pink/blue stripe=12v ignition, blue = speed signal to D2, tan = Ground., So remove the blue and tan wires from PCM plugs, relocate blue to D2, and splice tan into Earth wires at PCM. Also remove speed output to speedo from PCM (purple/white stripe) and splice into imput at D2.
Or contact the1 and he should be able to help you out. He knows a lot about auto/manual conversions: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/memberlist ... file&u=301

ive done 2 ecotec s/c auto > T5 conversions before, with both, just unplug auto loom, then tick the manual option flags in the tune and reburn, wire up the t5 sender directly to the speedo in the dash and leave the computer with no speed input. the MAF pcms dont seem to care about it, and ive never had idle issues on the ecotecs. on the earlier computers you have dramas when you disconnect the speed sensor, but the ecotecs dont seem to be affected.

greatly appreciated.
Now if you can tell me where I left my wiper motor that would be fantastic
apparently in 8 years stuff goes missing!
