Oxygen Sensor question
Oxygen Sensor question
Hey guys just a question regarding the stock narrowband on an 808.
I believe VN and VP sensors were single wire, but can a two-wire sensor be used and is there any advantage to this? Connect to pin D6 and ground as for VR manual?
Reason I ask is I've just converted a VR loom to VN plugs for use with my 808 ecu. Obviously the VR loom has a two wire plug for the oxygen sensor and I already have a two wire sensor as well.
Cheers

Re: Oxygen Sensor question
Yes you can use a two, three or four wire sensor as long as its connected correctly. Given you have the whole loom its probably already earthed to a suitable spot

Re: Oxygen Sensor question
VK3800 is correct. Just put a multimeter on the earth wire to make sure.
Re: Oxygen Sensor question
Cool. Yeah it's already connected to one of the loom earth points, but how about connecting it to the ecu? Some drawings of the VR pcm show a specific o2 sensor earth at D6. I have removed the ecu connectors from the VR loom and re pinned the loom into VN connectors for connection to 808 ecu. Was planning on using D6 on the 808 as well, it's just labelled as an earth on the diagram.

Re: Oxygen Sensor question
On a vn the oxygen sensor earth ecu wire is spliced into one of the other earth points.
On a vr I imagine it is seperate to the oxygen sensor alone.
If you use a single wire run the earth wire to an earth on the engine
If you use a 2 wire, wire it up as is (swap to correct pin for 808 if required)
I think D6 will be the oxygen sensor earth for an 808 aswell, but don't take my word for it.
I've got the VN factory service manual at home which tells me what the earth pins actually earth, but not on me at the moment.
I can have a look tommorow and get back to you if you wish

Re: Oxygen Sensor question
Just make sure it has a good earth. The VR manual wiring shows it connected straight to earth as well as the ECU. The ECU has earths at terminals D 1,3,6 & 10 as well as A12 if my diagram is correct. They are not there to earth the o2 sensor through the ECU but just a common earth point.

Re: Oxygen Sensor question
Wire the oxy earth to D6 as per the manual VR diagrams, its the 'quiet' earth for sensitive earthing. On a 4 wire heated oxy sensor you would use the other earth point for pin D12 (other pins are also spliced in to be earthed).shifty6 wrote:I believe VN and VP sensors were single wire, but can a two-wire sensor be used and is there any advantage to this? Re: Oxygen Sensor question
I ran a 2 wire O2 sensor on my VN, I just wired the earth wire back to the engine block. Seemed to work OK in my case. IT was the best the VN ever ran with regard to fuel mileage..... but then been in NZ, our cars never had O2 sensors to begin with

Re: Oxygen Sensor question
Are you saying NZ VN's didn't have a o2 sensor? How bizarre.
