You will need a key head if running a bcm.

you shouldn't though if vats is disabled, the VS BCM controls the starter relay, so if it doesn't get the signal to allow start it doesn't even crank, and if its a VR tune you need it to send the VS info to the bcm to do stuff.

must be something else then, you could try and bypass the start relay and see if it works ?

Vt onwards turning off the vats will allow the bcm to turn starter immobilizer off as well.
On vr/vs the vats and starter is pretty much a seperate system and even with vats removal it will still need a key head or the starter relay earthed.

bingo on the relay earth, it cranks a starter motor, will vats still be disabled even though the red light is still flashing?

all the vats does is allows the pcm to fire the injectors etc, and if what VS SS is saying is right then you'd need to permanently bypass the start relay to get it to work unless you have a working key head to match the bcm.

cool, i will wait till i have the motor in then to see if it fires, maybe find another BCM and head in the meantime. will a VS low/mid level sedan BCM work in place of a VS UTE BCM?
