I know VX & VY pcm's are the same and compatible providing the correct bin is written.
In the VY xdf i see an option for 6 or 8(4?) cyl.
Comparing files in hex i can see a lot of similar code between the 2 different variants in the region.
VY 0x5796 35=6 37=8
VX 0x5796 17=6 would 19=8?
Would rather keep the vt/vx cluster and run a flashpcm than have to update to newer code and run a vy cluster.
It's either a VR pcm or newer pcm before i build the loom. (not paying the ridiculous prices asked for vt v8 pcm's when something else will do) vats would be nice.

Re: VX bin
The flash PCM hardware does not have 8 injector drivers.
Re: VX bin
I have a couple of pcm's so was going to solder the 2 extra drivers onto the board.

Re: VX bin
The code does not support 8 cylinders, only 6.
Re: VX bin
So 92108762 is really nothing like 92163772
The option in VY V6_$060B v2.41.xdf for the cylinder select not actually functional?

Re: VX bin
GM write the code as modules and then compile to suit the engine (early MAP code was not like this), so parts do reference 6 and 8 cylinders. However the main working code only supports 6 cylinders. With no V8 running a delco it is not like VT series 1 with V6 ($A5) and V8 ($A6) bins.
Re: VX bin
Ok, well ignoring fuel and injectors, will it drive the ignition?
Why i was originally going for a VR auto pcm. If i don't have to worry about petrol i'll rip the entire lot out and run the gas carb by itself.

Re: VX bin
If you are thinking ignition only you may as well run a VR pcm. You don't have any advantage in the ignition department by using a later PCM anyways.
