VSS vt v8 to gq patrol

Post by Hokey »

Hey guys.

I've got a 304 roller motor in my gq patrol. Got a memcal off ebay with vats removed. I need to rig up some type of speed sensor. The patrol runs an electronic speedo drive. Would it be possible to use the signal from that? What type of signal does the pcm require?

I'm hoping this will fix some idle troubles I'm having.

Cheers

do you know what type of ecu you are using? that will determine the sensor type.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

Last 304 into gq patrol I did I just tapped into the vss and it worked fine as its a reluctor type pick up then all you have to do is just work out your ppk worked fine no issues with speedo or pcm signal that's was using a vr 424 ecu but vt can use the same signals and is also 2 wire

Hm i haven't setup with the tools to tune my own memcals yet.

Ppk meaning pulses per revolution? Can i check that with a multimeter?

Pulse per km and unfortunately no you can't chrck it with multimeter you need to take it for a run with the laptop plugged in view the speedo and view the ecu speed work out the difference then times the ppk by the difference in speed the reprogram the ecu

Hey mate,

I am doing something similar (HSV VT 195kw V8 into FJ40 Landcruiser).

The VT ECU uses a reluctance type of sensor compared to the VN-VS which used hall effect.

You're lucky in that the GQ already runs an electronic sensor... Does it have 2 or 3 wires? (3 wire = hall effect, 2 wire = reluctance).

I am planning on using one of these converters...

In theory you should be able to splice into the wiring to provide a signal to this box, then have the box feed the ECU. That way you can self adjust till you get the speed correct.

Ive actually just placed an order today, so hopefully in a few weeks ill have it up and running.

Cheers

GQs use a two wire reluctor VSS.
