VN V8 ignition module
VN V8 ignition module
Hey Guys,
My ignition module could be on its way out...would anybody know what transistor is used in the current setup? Need to find a suitable replacement.
cheers

They are a darlington transistor number MJ10012 from memory.

So old school
Have a look at these Holden Commodore Ignition Module V8 5.0 RACING,EXCHANGE + 3YR WARRANTY

Remoo: VN V8 ignition module
I have taken it part to put in the New mj10012 and noticed there is a grey(looks like a resistor) spiral looking thing with r068 10%1 is that a resistor? I have De soldered it and cannot get a resistor reading. Cheers guys

Re: VN V8 ignition module
That could well be part of the problem. Looks like it might be the feed to the base.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

R068 looks like an 0.68 ohm power resistor. It will probably be connected between the transistor and either the coil or power. Looks in good condition to me.
Re: VN V8 ignition module
Cool. Nah that was a random pic off the net.... Mines slightly cooked lol. Will need to go back and change the rresistor I purchased as electronics dude said it was a 68ohm 10% tolerance 1w but 0.68 makes sense!

Post a photo as yours might just have been warm and not damaged.

Re: VN V8 ignition module
all good it was fine after checking with the multimeter so I re soldered it back in re heated all the solder pads, replaced the capacitor and installed the MJ10012 and shes alive now and drives better then ever. I was told by a mate by using the MJ10012 I can use a HEC coil instead of the MEC is this true or false?
PS: is it possible to put a alternative IGBT in place of the Darlington transistor?

ummm, i thought they used HEC normally ? whats the MEC?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
