VR V6 AUTO ECU CONVERSION INTO VT

Post by v8-tuning »

Hi guys
Got a 98 VT with an l67 v6 its got 13 psi pulley mace A2A cooler and
will be getting a cam due to a bad cam and lifter.
Iv'e been looking at using a vr auto ecu and just wondering if anyone has done
this and could give some advice on what to do in reguard's to wiring and anything else.
I couldn't seem to tune a dead spot with the maf so I think converting to map
might be the way to go.

hey man you will need a 2bar map sensor and a vr 424 ecu and loom and iat sensor to be tapped into the manifold and a nvram and aldl cable, apart from that its pretty simple to wire the loom onto the engine all the other sensors plugs are the same its just a matter of changing where it plugs into the body loom etc definatly wort the effort for the map
The answer is always... boost!

Sounds easy.
Will give it a go as I want to do away with the maf.
Iv'e tuned these before but its not happy with the a2a cooler.
Its only a cheap project really.
Tuning ain't an issue.
I more or less was wondering about the main plugs.
I guess they have to be repined and will loose a couple functions on the
dash which I'm not fussed about.
My other question was will it affect the climate control?
Here's a pic anyway needs work but got to be expected for what I paid.
Plan is 19lb pulley ,cam and valvetrain and considering going E85.

Could you or anyone help with the wiring?
I have the harness installed but my main issue is trying to trace power/ignition,fuel pump
etc, on the vt its not as easy as people think for someone doing it 1st time.
Vt has 3 plugs and only 2 on vr as you know and gets confusing.
I'm not bad with wiring and found a few things had to extend parts of the harness
as wasn't a straight fit especially with my setup.
Would really appreciate some help some detailed help on what to wire and where
ive got 1 week to get it back on the road, doing my head in atm. :driving:

VR has 3 plugs, one under the dash above the ecu connectors then the 2 in the engine bay near the battery.

Yeah I'm not talking about the 3rd plug iv'e worked that out already
don't mean to be rude mate but that's not in anyway helpful.
I wanted to use the 3 vt plugs but seems most are dash and bcm input or
go back to ecu, ideally having it all plug in would be the go but I don't think
that will work?
What I want to know and from someone who has done this conversion is
did you have to modify the main vt harness eg patch to power, ignition, fuel pump relay etc?
Problem is tracing the wires on these 3 plugs would be good if diagrams showed
what wire goes where from that plug but instead you have to trace to pcm and try and
work out what goes where from the vr pcm and harness and the diagrams aren't the best.
That's why id love to hear from someone who has done this, might save me a lot of time and headaches :)

It's a workable idea for sure. I've worked on both VT and VR looms plenty of times but never done this exact job.

I'm pretty thick skinned but hope you talk to your customers better.

I have complete VR wiring book here and VT engine in PDF. If there's anything exact you need from the VR side just post up here. I know most VN-VS stuff off hand.

Good luck with the quick turn around.

Lol I'm just straight to the point lil blunt sometimes but I look after my customers ;)
This is my own project just something to do and I like the l67s.
I appreciate the post just trying to figure out the vt stuff mainly vr is easy.
Just was hoping someone could tell straight up how to wire to the vt rather
than spend hours looking at diagrams and tracing wiring diagrams etc.
Cant stop now anyway I'm committed lol.

Sounds good. Im sure someone will post up such a diagram if they know. If no one comes forward it'd be great if you could post your notes once you've sussed it out for the next person.
