I've just bunged in my hard drive from one PC to another when I've upgraded just fine. As long as it's win 7 or newer they handle it pretty good. Some drivers you will need to manually install for the new hardware as windows doesn't always find or have drivers for some items.
I've only heard of some people having no boot BSOD issues when changing from Intel to AMD and vise versa. I've done it once and it worked eventually once I sorted a few errors.
Inter-brand of CPU migrations are generally are fine I found.
