Re: V6 ecotec 3800. Tuning ls1 Pcm
didnt the ecotec and l67 have obd2 ecu in the states there may be a factory cal for 3.8
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem
Re: V6 ecotec 3800. Tuning ls1 Pcm
VL400 i did do some tests and the DFI ignition module does not need any PCM connected at all to get spark...It just gets a signal from the PCM to advance and retard timing..
I dont think you can run multiple coils from the PCM while running the low res crank trigger..

Yes Delcowizzard, in the states they did run an ls1 type of PCM in all the pontiacs
Ive been down that track...all ready have a few V6 engines running with those PCM's
But the software is Different very very limited, The LS1 software has alot more options and flexability under 2 or 3 bar applications

I looked at this a while ago found a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Truck Automatic L35 4.3 Litre (12212156) wiring and tune file.
It uses only the number one coil driver and low res 3x crank.
this is what I was thinking of using. DFI. Injectors.

Re: V6 ecotec 3800. Tuning ls1 Pcm
Sort of. The DFI module runs in module mode when the bypass wire is left open or has 0v on it. In this mode it uses the physical tooth edges to start dwell and end dwell. Which edges are used is controlled by the logic inside the module, no external PCM is needed but spark is locked at 10deg BTDC (which is one of the 18x trigger edges). The DFI also sends a reference pulse to the ECU, which is 3 pulses per rev with a falling edge at exactly 70deg BTDC. http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic. ... t=10#p2103JMS-3800 wrote:VL400 i did do some tests and the DFI ignition module does not need any PCM connected at all to get spark...It just gets a signal from the PCM to advance and retard timing..
After cranking the PCM puts 5V on the bypass wire and also sends the DFI square wave triggers that define dwell start and dwell end - the PCM uses the reference pulse from the DFI to know where the engine rotational position is so can time the dwell/spark pulse edges for the desired advance. The physical tooth triggers are not used for spark delivery and the module must have PCM EST pulses to get any spark, not just to retard/advance from the module spark advance.
The reason for this is two fold, one it gives extremely accurate spark advance during cranking even with high compression and also gives a fall back fail safe for limp mode.

The 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Truck Automatic L35 4.3 Litre (12212156) is a ls1 pcm and efi live has a custom 2 and 3 bar tune.
The pictures are what I made from the factory ones.
I was thinking the bypass wire should be wired to a 5 volt for the pcm to control from startup or switched in some way.

I changed the setting to low res...Still wont fire...
I get a few backwires and attempting to fire.....Sounds like injectors are firing at the wrong time...
I put a little fuel down the throttle body...fire and runs perfect for a few seconds

Re: V6 ecotec 3800. Tuning ls1 Pcm
it occurred to me... ls1 is 8cyl with a 24 tooth crank trigger. ecotec is 6cyl with an 18x... which is the same number of teeth per cylinder. perhaps you can wire in the 18x and leave low res crank trigger off?
also have you wired in the cam sensor? its going to need it to get the injector sequence right. maybe you can see the order its firing the injectors if you put 6 lights on the injectors plugs

Re: V6 ecotec 3800. Tuning ls1 Pcm
if it doesn't have the cam sensor it will most likely be firing cylinder 1 as it sees the first reference pulse, then from there it will just go through the firing order each time it sees a pulse, but if the first cylinder needing to fire is cylinder 4 its going to be out a fair bit!
but also jayme, if its expecting to see 24 teeth and only sees 18 I don't see how that will stay in sequence ?

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
