Re: CF Bedford Van
I still havnt seen episode 2 onwards no time. I am not sure it is going to fit nicely seeing the width but then again the 304/8 is wider overall, although alan and woody do great fab work so it should be neat. I guess unlike the 304/8 there will be ample room for left foot and clutch pedal (yes I know it is an auto). I cannot believe UK put a 4 cylinder in these. The poor van would have really worked the motor hard.Holden202T wrote:yeah i've been watching them

Re: CF Bedford Van
yeah its fitting pretty well so far, being able to low mount the turbo is the best outcome for it, im looking forward to seeing how it ends up with the engine cover etc.
in other news i've been having some issues with the bedford when i started it last time it was a bit lean, once it warmed up it was "ok" but wideband was reading lean and revs usually caused a lean backfire ..... this was maybe 6-8 months ago.
the other day i wanted to test my data logger on it before i put it in a car to go off logging, so i decided it was a good oportunity to put some fresh fuel in it and give it a start up at the same time....... ooooh what a mistake that was.
firstly it started ....barely! spluttered for about 10 seconds and as soon as i pressed the pedal it died, it then wouldn't re-fire again, and then flat battery, so i got another battery to try, in the process of that it snapped the negative battery terminal screw off the clamp!
feeling defeat was upon me i decided to just turn the ignition on and test the logger ..... and of course it wouldn't connect, nor would the usb interface on the laptop with flashtool.... at this point i said fuck it and had a calming ale ... or 4!
whilst having said ale i was wondering why there was so much fuel smell in the shed and found injectors leaking from the top seal into the fuel rail, and it was nearly all of them, so i pulled the fuel rail out and this happened on 4 of them.
I then pulled all the injectors out and found out why they were leaking its not really a good photo but the top seal is half eaten away
i then spotted the reason it wasn't running real well ...... the cavity inside the rail was also full of gunk!
some of the filters were full to the top with crap, others not so much......
so i'm in the process of getting some injector kits and seals to fix stuff, and i'll be replacing the fuel filter, and i'm interested to see whats inside it!
the only positive from this is i've worked out why its not running right

Re: CF Bedford Van

Re: CF Bedford Van
in this case i can safely say since i put the VS commodore fuel tank in the bedford all its had in it was 98 octane fuel, so it shouldn't be, but who knows really!

Re: CF Bedford Van
Judging by the last photo I would say not ethanol issue. it might have just been that time. I would be replacing your fuel filter as well.....Holden202T wrote:in this case i can safely say since i put the VS commodore fuel tank in the Bedford all its had in it was 98 octane fuel, so it shouldn't be, but who knows really!
That sediment is not looking too nice. Did the tank get cleaned before being installed?
cheers

Re: CF Bedford Van
I know this might sound weird but bare with me.... (not like that!!! )
when cleaning tanks I use ethanol based fuel as a starter and also a finisher. Ethanol attracts itself to water whihc means you can actually remove all the water from your tank easily. Once that is done I generally use a POR15 product for fuel tank repairs to clean the tank once more and then rinse with ethanol again. You will need to take approx 2 week with this as it is not a fast process.
If you need to actually do the repair to inside then I purchase the full tank repair product to go through the process properly. This essentially places that same type of product that the old jerry cans had in them when leaded fuel was around (yes i know you young whipper snappers are not knowing of this). what is means is that any remaining sediment gets bonded to the tank liner and thus does not end up in your lines. Dries like rock and never an issue again. I have done a number of tanks now with this process and all have been perfect. Unfortunately I have not done a commodore tank as i have not needed too as yet but I will need to when I do the statesman tank.
might be time you investigate this further.
cheers
