DFIs and coil packs are getting hard to get, at least good quality genuine used ones. I've only found the good genuine brand new ones in the US for 400 odd AUD. AC Delco made in Mexico ones.
The off the shelf new ones sold now are garbage. They typically only last a few weeks to months before they fail. The coils sometimes are DOA.
Only ones I have not tried are the NGK ones which I heard are decent. DFIs, only the crappy china Delphi ones can be had in Aus and I think there are even worse no name ones.
Every time I got to the wreckers in the last 5 years, all DFIs and coils are gone before I ever get a chance. Very frustrating the least to say.

Hey all, Been a while since posting but I have been here and have continued on with the jackaroo ignition module and 6+1 crank wheel. I checked the first posts of this project and can't believe how many years have gone by.... Like I said at the start I don't have a lot of money or time but i do what i can .I do enjoy just playing around with this stuff.
So this is where I am at . Got my crank wheel ,spacer , sensor mounting bracket . laser cut
I have follow a few blokes on here with different crank wheels /sensors/ coil pack firing orders/ .would have to say its been a bit confusing.At the moment with the engine on cyl#1 TDC i have the crank sensor pointing at the slot before the +1 at 10deg . check picture below.
Sensor is just taped in place at the moment.
coil pack plug order? in these pictues show different plug orders but i was unable to find a picture showing exactly where the sensor was when engine is a TDC 1.

At the moment i have coilpack setup as in picture 3 . Tried to fire her up just got backfire and flames ...LOL ....Also found MAP sensor stuck at full vacuum. So i have a new CHINA MAP on the way .The ign mod is TRIDON and the coils are prob CHINA. hopefully these part do not give me problems......

But looking at the motec delco picture of the coilpack I think the top picture n#1 (red motor) looks to be correct.
And there is a question about the polarity of the ABS sensor used for CrankAS.

Didn't know a module like that existed, handy to know!

I looked up the RB30 firing order - its 1-5-3-6-2-4
So I figured that if the first 3 are 1-5-3 then it was likely the it'd go with the same pattern of the next 3 cylinders, (which were on the opposite stroke (exhaust) when the first half of the engine was compression and firing), So 6-2-4.
Then to validate this I looked for photos of the RB30 block or crank shaft on stores and marketplaces. The photos of the block dont lie, but you cant be sure that shops with pictures of cranks are using the real photo of the real crank and not a stock photo though. I was able to confirm the above, so the paired cylinders are 1&6, 5&2, 3&4.
These photos show and confirmed and cylinder pairing is balanced as above.

So the next question is which order do the packs fire in. I found this on just commodores (thanks user aussie4life). I am not sure what the little overlayed picture is.
- VR v6 249084_firing_order_2.jpg (15.78 KiB) Viewed 3533 times
And the coils look like:
- vr v6 ignition.png (239.16 KiB) Viewed 3533 times
So coils are pictured with leads on coil bottom (I rotated it to go left to right and match the V6 pic above it). This is the same across this generation, including the USA module that takes that trigger pattern. I have compared other random for sale adds to confirm.
Rotated this way you want 1&6 on the first pack 5&2 on the middle pack, and 3&4 on the last pack. Essentially as labeled, but with 4 & 6 swapped.
But... the motec diagram shows B C A order, which is the same order, but this makes my head hurt as with -60 reference angle you are 1 cylinder out there too. They may cancel each other out meaning what I said is right, or may mean its offset by 1 coil. I'd ignore the BCA on the motec pic unless something is still wrong and you cant figure it out, as nothing else is referencing BCA module order.
But before you try and start it, I'd take the plugs out so it turns over easily and crank it and make sure you are seeing a good RPM signal in tunerpro. Also make sure you have the reference angle set for the coilpack not the distributor in the bin, and double/triple check your positioning of the trigger sensor and wheel with reference to TDC. Its a headf**k.

Well all straight 6 have the pistons pairs like that, but the firing order is based on the cam pretty much because you can have even firing and balance with the same crank in two patterns from memory, basically the power and exhaust/ intake and compression pairs are swapped on the cam, crank remains the same.

Pretty sure the confusing part is just that the V6 diagram and firing order is incorrect.
GM uses standard numbering so a V6 is (front at left):
Driver side (in AU/NZ!)
2 - 4 - 6
1 - 3 - 5
Passenger side
and the firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2. This aligns with each coil firing pistons in the same position but opposing stroke, one on power cycle and the other with valves open. If you spin the coil pack image 180 degrees you can also see this aligns with the ABC firing sequence from the diagram.
So if all the timing and reference angles are set up to match (the hard part) you leave #1 where it is and work your way through the firing order of the straight six from there, i.e.:
Coil label => Actual cylinder
1 => 1
6 => 5
5 => 3
4 => 6
3 => 2
2 => 4
This makes the new coil pairings exactly as antus said (edit: but not on the same coil packs as the V6 output). Just need to get the starting point (#1 reference angle) correct.

Yes This is where i had got to . And agree with what you have said. Also not sure about motec page(but does show the sensor in position). The way i look at it the main problem is finding out which coil fires first when the sensor hits first slot and cyl 1 is at comp TDC.
With the coil packs setup as above i tried my timing light on plug 1&6 but could not get a good reliable strobe very intermittent. Don't know if its my old timing light or wrong setup....
I had noticed that the MAP sensor was stuck. So i have one one the way (wanting to rule out bad signal).

So I think I have found the key. 1992 Jackeroo Isuzu 3.2lt. V6 motor firing order is 123456 and have found this pic.

Which looks to me to match up with the motec diagram.
