The PCM seemed to be ok when connected to PC to turn off VATS. But then I don't know if that proves the PCM is ok
I was hoping it was just the air temp sensor (Missing)

Missing IAT wont stop it from starting or running, check your connection to the pcm.

I should mention there is a flashing padlock shaped light near the gauges
Fuses look good
Maybe it is PCM

do you have the key put it in the ignition and turn it till it contacts the metal ring surrounding the key thats probably the padlock symbol and the partial cranking.or remove the start relay and bridge the terminals with a bit of wire so it cranks it should run if vats etc is off properly.i just did this to a vx ls1 with an ecu borrowed from a vt with vats off to test an engine before ripping it out.the key was the wrong key and wouldnt crank but ran when we cranked it over manually via the relay

Yep, flashing padlock is the security system in the BCM is still armed due to no key being used.

With no comms the dash error is different to what you get with a faulty sensor, the no comms between modules is normally a service error message instead of an engine picture.

just bridge pin 87 and 30 on the start relay with your ignition on see if it starts.if it does youre ready to cut the wiring down to the bare 4 wire or so hookup minus bcm and pim
