fumes are more of a combination of stubbornness / intelligence x poor ventilation.

You shouldn't need to physically disconnect the BCM, it is all controlled electronically via commands in the ADX file when you connect with Tunerpro.

Tunerpro doesn't actually disconnect the BCM either, it just quietens the chatter from the BCM (communication between the BCM, PCM, Dash, ABS modules etc) so tunerpro can use the full bandwidth of the bus for it's own communication between the PCM and your computer.

What cable are you using?

Also adx/xdf. If you have an old or low quality adx it wont get the data bus right and you will need the switch. Recommend to use the1's enhanced bins/xdfs/adxs which are the highest quality and packaged together for use together.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Hi all , thats the xdf that I am using
Found fault to be cracked vaccuam line on fuel pressure regulator.
Still cant get tunerpro to read what I believe to be correct.
Might have to get better interface .the one I have is from Ebay from a bloke on the gold coast.
Is there a unit that will definitely work?

Hi VN5000 ,module was programmed for me by a bloke from the gold coast,Vats has been removed, thats all as far as i know, using enhanced adx etc in tuner pro, BCM fitted and wired all working well except for interior illumination relay which appears to be energised all the time ,cant find out what cycles this off maybe just doors and maybe its on a timer will have to check and see how long it stays energised for, i keep forgetting and opening the door ,relay will then be energised of coarse.

Have you been able to confirm its an enhanced bin on the memcal?
You mentioned someone removed vats for you. Its disabled as standard on the enhanced bins I've dealt with.
