Cutting and welding another input shaft is OK as long as the welder does a good job. It will never be subjected to more torque than the engine can put out.

Re: Buying new sst chips or alternatives
If your talking SST 27SF512 I have used Winbond W27C512-45Z as a replacement and no issues.

Holden dealers used to sell a diff additive to stop diff chatter. It was very expensive but definately did the job.

Thanks Ken. I don't play around with those ECU's but it's time I did so I'll hunt around for some bin files just to have a play.

I just love the plastic reduction gears used by bosch for Ford's used in the cab industry. You could buy a replacement for under $100 which screams out poor quality.

Just for your info you should be measuring the bad earths as a voltage drop when the circuit is operating. Ohms is very misleading and inaccurate way of doing it.

I think you can read the mencal thru the OBD port with the Flashtool but you can't write to it.

Re: New engine, first start up tune ?
I think the std 165 or 185 bin file should be fine. I don't know if the 215 has bigger injectors though. Make sure you keep the revs up to around 2000-2500 after startup and warmup. I'v seen flat tappet cams rip the lobes off in no time if left to idle after the first startup.

No that one is for the HSV. Have you got the Memcal ID tool? Download it from this site. If the memcal is factory it should still have the number on it and use the bin file and XDF from the Memcal ID program with TunerPro to look thru it.
