Re: GQ USB Programmer Software failure?
Stupid question, did you try powering the laptop on and off completely? My laptop does this sort of thing all of the time, and I've worked out it's due to incomplete windows updates that need a full power cycle to finish and it's so much of an issue, stuff literally stops working with exactly the sa...

Re: V6 Timing chain questions.
Not price difference these days between a single or double. I assume the reinforced single is plenty for adding boost to the Ecotec. Single would also save the need to the thicker oil cover. I also take it balance shaft can still be disengaged with the singe ? Yes you can, you just need to leave th...

Re: VR Ute
Thanks for the alloy info, have always contemplated getting one, but it would almost be entirely for alloy cleaning since they are what I struggle with after my older brother pinched and used up my "mystery" acid which cleaned alloy so perfectly that nothing has matched it. I suspect it wa...

That was a standard oil pump cover from memory wasn't it?
What was the chain like? looks a little stretched going by the marks.

Re: Low points in Ve table graph.
That's my VR stock engine, only pacemakers, decent exhaust and Mace CAI. It's actually 146 hp or about 110kw. 0-100 in 7.6. That is also the dyno and VE for it. My VP with 140kw, about 190hp, 0-100 6.0 flat, is wavy as shit. and the VE is quite spiky as well, any decent overlap in the cam does this ...

Re: V6 Timing chain questions.
Also, going by that video and that I know roller chains need good lubrication. I thought, what if an oil squirter is added to help lubricate the chain directly and not rely on oil mist and splash. Turns out some engines have them as standard, apparently Holden V8s had them in some models? I only fou...

Re: V6 Timing chain questions.
How many miles do they put on a timing chain though before it's replaced? Not sure, they do hours of use instead. I vaguely recall something like 50 hours? I assume an average speed of 160kh/h which I recall reading somewhere once, I think how they were our fastest race cars for a long time, averag...

Here is a good video about chain wear and the stretch that comes with it.

Re: V6 Timing chain questions.
The consensus was any aftermarket roller chain, don't run a damper even if they stretch a little. Silent chain (OEM) run the damper, they are way more loose than the roller chain sets, new and old. I think I even asked Dandy engines when I was bored one day at work as was near the area and picked th...
