i use OPCOM USB Interface to connect my m1.5.4. The OPCOM software says: protokol KW82. When i say in OPCOM: Omega 2,5L or 3,0L it connect with success on my M1.5.4. 2,5L+3,0L have M2.8.1, OPCOM display KW82. You say KWP1281. What is the right? Have not seen it before, thank you ASM! Unfortunately it will not be helpful for me as it seems it should describe older communication protocol (maybe KWP71?) while mine uses newer (KWP1281). 9600 bps is just too low for good resolution data logging and that is why I would like to try custom routine...

You need real hardware parallel (LPT) port for Willem programmers. If you will not be able to find/use PCMCIA card you can try to find docking station for your laptop (it depends mostly if you are using business or customer series one). IMHO it would only be good idea to run DI on high CR (or even boosted high CR) engine. It seems for lower CR (especially in N/A applications) it is worse than port injection/throttle body injection/carburettor...

Jayme, you forgot injection pressure is much higher (>=100 bar for high engine load) so you have plenty of time to inject fuel.

I do not think it would be easy to achieve (if possible at all) as direct injection needs ability to control fuel pressure, it needs different beginning of injection, injection duration (injector pulse width) is different... It might need most of stock injection functions replaced by custom routines...

From my experience it is better to advance timing then to add fuel at low loads/engine speeds with fatter cams. In fact fatter cam needs less highest advance (as there is more air/fuel) but more advance down low (idle/low load areas) and higher idle speed.
