Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
The pollution stuff doesn't really worry me, its not a performance car so losing a few kw for cats etc isnt a big deal. Mostly i want the low down torque and exhaust note, plus fuel injection for cold starts etc. Should be a nice upgrade... Fully rebuilt 195kw 5L V8 with LPG vapour injection and EFI...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
From factory they would have been in front of the cats anyway. Just stick them in the new bit you welded onto the headers and done. OMG I feel like such a bloody retard.... You are right, they are in front of the cats... I must have been thinking of the ls1 which had them further down. So I should ...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
Problem with going under the gearbox is it will reduce ground clearance. We are working as hard as possible to maximise clearance, don't really want to run an extra pipe underneath. Our engineer says the engine must meet all requirements of the car it came out in, hence needing charcoal canister etc...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
EG could have a 1.5" pipe coming off the bottom of the collector and going under the sump to the other side?

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
Excellent post mate, and love the sound of that Torana  How far past the collector did you add the balance pipe? And was it before or after the cars/o2 sensor? How big was the balance pipe? What do you think would happen if i put a balance pipe just after the collector? I sort of wanted to ...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
It's the standard header, but cut to fit a 2.5" pipe. Normally it drops down to to 2.25" I think. I plan to do the entire system in 2.5" stainless steel mandral bends.

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
:(, That's a concern.... Im half way through that chev exhaust system, and ive got a couple of options. So far its a twin system with a cat and muffler on each side. 1. Leave it as is 2. Add a balance pipe at the very front 3. Add a "dual inlet, dual outlet" mufflers in the rear to join th...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
To give you an idea, here is a pic of the system i did in another FJ40 with a Chev 350. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee369/feistl/IMG_5795%20Large_zpsohewoik5.jpg http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee369/feistl/IMG_5722%20Large_zpshc8qczzu.jpg And this is the VT headers (just started...) htt...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
Sorry i should have been clearer from the start... The Landcruiser im putting it in is a 40 series, so the extractors head out the side and run down the outside of the chassis (under the tub). Think of an AC Cobra style exhaust... So pretty much my only option for a balance pipe is to go from the co...

Re: VT V8 Exhaust question
Problem is i physically cant run it after the cats. My only real option is to run a 1.5" balance pipe which pretty much connects to the header/collectors.
Is there a way it can be tuned without the o2 sensors?
How bad will an exhaust sound without the balance pipe?
Cheers,
