Re: VY One Tonner

Not sure you can run an additive with a True Trac or Torque Lock. Whether an additive affects them I know not, but Eaton says don't do it. They also advise against using a synthetic oil. I thought the later Crewmans also had some trickery with the diff housing as well to stop axle tramp. Gareth does...

Re: VY One Tonner

Haven’t experienced the axle tramp yet, but might not be enough weight over the back for that to happen in a one tonner – all I get is a bit of wheel slip. Anyway Landrover drivers are a bit like vegans, and I will be hearing about being rescued by a Landrover for decades to come. Its still raining ...

Re: VY One Tonner

Haven't actually towed much with it to be honest. Only thing I've towed recently was a lighting tower for the school fete and that was last year. When it does actually get used as a ute it is usually with the tray loaded. When I was putting turf down in the yard, I did three 500 km trips with about ...

Re: VY One Tonner

I have brought shame upon my house.

6" rain last week. Another 2" this morning.
Not even the Torque Lock could save me.

Re: Muggy high humidity days significantly improves performance - But how?

If its high humidity and raining, isn’t the atmospheric pressure low? So if its high humidity, but not raining, then is the atmospheric pressure high? Because if the pressure was low it would be raining?
No idea, but could be part of the answer.

Re: n00b NVRAM tuning a Rover V8

Looks good. There are remote mount IAC blocks but it’s a bit late now. What you have will work fine. Theres a late 90s Land Rover not far from here with the same motor, possibly the 4.6 litre??? It’s been sitting for well over a decade now. As far as I know doesn’t even have 50K on it but would be t...

Re: n00b NVRAM tuning a Rover V8

Were you intending to fit an IAC at some stage? Would save you a fair bit of grief if you can. Should be able to set a start position and it will do the rest.

Cool project. Keen to see some more photos.

Re: Ecotec V6 Dry sump

Synthetic media filters can have some advantages particularly if running high ethanol content fuels. The typical off the shelf Ryco cellulose filter will absorb water and can go into bypass fairly easily, whereas the synthetic media filters don’t really absorb the water. Then again in some instances...

Re: Ecotec V6 Dry sump

My understanding is that semi and full synthetic oils are more susceptible than a mineral oil to cracking as they get hot, but I don’t know at what temp that actually is. Certainly any oil cooling the underside of the pistons would be a lot hotter than 100 degs C. I am not a chemist, but I guess dep...
