So it wouldn't start with the original memcal?
Did you disconnect the battery while you swapped the nvram & memcal?

The CAM sensor is only used by the PCM for sequential fuelling, the DIS models doesn't really care about it at all.

The DIS module doesn't need the PCM at all to run the spark when it is in bypass mode (by default).
The PCM brings the DIS module out of bypass mode above 400 rpm and takes control once things are running.

Also there are no other means of communications, aldl bus is it.
