YES.. FINALLY! Got it!!! WOOOOO!

Right, so, the ECU can be reset no worries. And the PIM can now too.

My theory was, that when an ECU is reset and a PIM is not, the PIM code will be written to the ECU, so, in saying that if you initiate the link you can capture the code :)
Also if performing the bruteforce reset on the ECU, you will then eventually figure out the immob code which can then be later used on the PIM.

Cant believe how long this one had me stumped for.!

Hey Tazzi, old thread but I'm about to try and link all my gear together and have trying to find how to do it. I have a PIM from one vehicle, a 0411 PCM from another and a BCM with matching key from a V6 VY commodore.
I'm 99% sure the PIM wasn't reset before removal, and the PCM is a COS3 MAFless tune with VATS disabled.
How would I go about linking it all up?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... right.

So.. the situation from what I gather is:

VATs disabled ECU <-> Non-reset PIM <-> BCM

If vats is disabled.. really.. car will start regardless?

Yeah, not worried about car sdtarting, i cna bypass that easy enough, but i just need the PIM for the gauges. Will the PIM still function/control the gauges even if its disabled the start relay?

The PIM is just a 'middle man'

It translates information between ECU and the rest of the car. So everythign should work happily. From what I understand of the factory manuals explanations, its the ECU that does all the disabling of the car when VATs in on. Things like PIM and BCM do not do those functions.

Hope that helps!
