they are direct drive with a quick change rear end, they pull a leaver to dis-engage drive.
they generally put it in gear on the dummy grid, then key start it, either that or they can lock it in drive and be push started, then to stop (ie. red flag situation) they normally just pull it out of gear, coast to a stop then engine off and back in gear to restart.
