Yup, that's it ... I believe if it sees a LF it adds a CR and vice versa.

Ok, so some sort of progress if I copy and paste atz it returns elm327. something, but I can't get the other commands to it unless a do them one at a time, and then it still says zero bytes recorded.

However I did have success doing this..
use VPW Explorer, select avt 852, then type aa basic command like 6c 40 f0 3c 01.. bcm returns typical message ok good! close VPw explorer,

run vpwCapture COM4 19200

then I used a programing session from sps. The .txt file looked like garbage values.. but I thought maybe it as ASCII?? I opened it with hxd, hex editor and low and behold I got some code.. after separating the lines I got this.... Now mostly this makes sense but this 20 23 83 00 20 23 83 00, repeating makes no sense? What's happening here? Also using the tech to to scan for codes to the BCM, I get nothing? no log file? I'm guessing the tech 2 uses a non standard tool heading that Capture serial is ignoring, anyway to fix this?

I'm only getting what the bcm is sending me.. not what the sps mongoose is sending? This makes sense.. BTW, the bcm address is 40! so this is because I am setting up the avt852 in vpwexploer to receive messages from the BCM. Likely its been assigned a tool header address. And told to ignore messages from other addresses, I need to enable all vpw monitoring, or at least the BCM, and tech 2, tool address.

I looked through the source file of VPWcapture, and looks like its done in C# sharp, I only know C, and it appears the info I want to change is done in what I'd guess is a C sharp function call? Who is the author of capture serial can I talk to them? I'd like to edit the functions to change the vpw monitored addresses.

So you're actually finally trying by pasting the commands and it works. :wtf:

You can only do one command at a time ... It's a command and response interface.
Once you get your tool setup correctly with the correct AT commands it'll come out much better.

You can modify as long as you abide by the GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 3.
That goes for all the PcmHacks software.

I haven't spent 30 seconds looking at either SerialCapture or VPWDecoder.
SerialCapture just records what comes through the serial port, period!
VPWDecoder, from a quick glance I don't see any filtering at all ... No monitored addresses. It reads and decodes what it reads, no filtering.

I do see VPWDecoder needs the ReadElmLine(...) updated.
I'll add it to my TODO list.

No copy paste only worked for the initial atz. But typing the rest manually maybe worked? Does the eml327 respond after each step? I only got one response after eml327. And then it never goes to a new line I have to back space retype and hit enter. Seems strange. And then it still says read zero bits. And the logs empty.

I gave up entirely on the eml327.

The avt852 is what gave me a decant log!! Just need to convert the .txt ASCII code into text using hex editor.

But since I used vpw explorer to “setup” the avt 852 It must not set the avt to be able to read all vpw messages? Cause I’m not seeing what the tech 2 is sending. Only the bcm response.

I don’t think the folder that has the source code for vpw explorer has the User defined library or function files? That’s likely were the code to setup the Avt852 is? That’s what I want to modify!

When you paste ATZ into PuTTY do you also include the Carriage Return or do you hit enter after you paste ??
You must also include the CR so it takes action on the paste, NO ENTER KEY USED.

The following is what a typical ELM327 session looks like,
PuTTY OsID.png
PuTTY OsID.png (8.56 KiB) Viewed 3196 times
I would completely forget about CaptureSerial ...
I would be using VPWDecoder or simply PuTTY to learn the operation of the ELM327.

For the AVT ...
VPWExplorer uses PcmLibrary and PcmLibraryWindowsForms for much of it's functionality, like all the apps in the PcmHacks suite do. (PcmHammer, PcmLogger, VPWExplorer)

The setup and configuration of the AVT is in https://github.com/LegacyNsfw/PcmHacks/blob/develop/Apps/PcmLibrary/Devices/AvtDevice.cs.

Wow it finally worked but I can’t get it to work again? It’s really hard to type in the commands because it doesn’t ever go to a new line?

Like
Paste
AT Z press enter key
Then displays
>Eml327 1.5
Then paste AT E1 looks like this
>AT E127 1.5 enter then looks like this
>kT E127 1.5

I’m assuming k is ok? And I did this till the end and it recorded a bit of vpw code. Until I unplugged it be accident. Then I started all over and this Time the last command reported this back
>topped27 1.5

I think that means stooped?

Be a hole lot easier of the dum thing would go to a new line?

I tried AT Z\n\r and that did nothing also tried cntrl m Ritter of those should go to a new line?

It’s like my keyboard settings are jacked?

What should the keyboard settings look like?

Anyway to send it as a script in one chunk with proper line feeds and carriage returns in a script file or c program?

I write something up real quick that might do the trick, at least give you something to work off of.. It's kind of a copy and paste from when I was working with elm's a few years ago. link below is to the source if you want to see it and change it as needed to suit you. look in the bin folder if you just want to try the exe file.. I used visual studio to create it.

IIRC ELM327 v1.5 is a known bad clone, there never was a real v1.5 produced because of this clone that got released before a real release of that version.

However, it still does work to some degree ...

No way to script it in PuTTY.

The best way to copy a single command for pasting is to create a text file (notepad), type each command on it's own line, then place your cursor at the beginning of the line for the command you want, hold the shift key down, hit the down arrow key one time, then hit Control-C to copy it to the clipboard.

That technique includes the CR.
