OBD-II Information
Over the last few weeks i have been getting a nice "check powertrain" displaying on the VZ Ute dash, so originally started searching the web for info on how to get the DTC out of it .... and unfortunately its not as easy as jumpering the diag plug and watching the codes flash up (well atleast i couldn't find any info to that effect) so i harrased my mate who has an OBD-II hand held scan tool, and it told me that i had a P0430 code logged ....
So anyways long story short, i've found that one advantage to the new car stuff is that it all cars as of 2006 have to comply with certain protocols to allow a bit of standardisation across the board ..... the up side to this is that there is a SHITE load of info out on the net already.
For example, there are certain PIDs (Prameter ID) that have to be used in all cars, i assume this is so someone like the EPA etc can quickly see that a car meets emissions without having to have 15 million interfaces etc .... so then each manufacturer can add there own PIDs for other stuff if they desire aslong as they have the standard ones at the standard address etc.
have a quick look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs#Standard_PIDs ... these are the list of standard PID's, minimums and maximums, equations the lot, how much easier does this make things!
I've also been compiling a list of DTC's that i've found on various websites, if anyone is interested they are here:
http://www.oldholdens.com/temp/carstuff ... formation/
theres also some info there courtesy of VL400 on commodore specific stuff (i think its more VS-VY type stuff), if anyone wants to contribute stuff let me know and i can add it to the folder.
I have also just purchased an ELM 327 interface which i am HOPING will allow me to connect to the VZ and start having a play with some logging etc - wish it would hurry up and arrive already!!

Re: OBD-II Information
if its anything like the one i got its probably just your average scanning interface, the software is nothing special and it usually either free or trial version ....
having said that it does allow you to scan and see error codes and clear them so that could be handy!

Re: OBD-II Information
Yeah, I got me a china special elm327 v1.4 bluetooth interface and it links to my mates vy ss with ls1 from my android phone with the torque app. Software is ok to see realtime data but not so good for logging.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396
Re: OBD-II Information

So any suggestions on one of these
http://shop.ebay.com.au/tomtop.wholesal ... m270.l1313
I was wondering why the blue one says obd2 tech 2 aren't all obd2 interfaces the same thing i just want a usb one for checking fault codes .

Re: OBD-II Information
You might like to try the software by these guys https://sites.google.com/site/outilsobdfacileen/home it's completely free and does logging and graphs as well as reading/clearing error codes. All they ask in return is a log file be sent to them so they can add it to their database and they'll send you a registration key. I have used it and it's pretty good for free.
