checking and setting iac steps Holden VS V6

Post by Pete30nz »

Hi,

got home from a half hour drive, car was nice and warm. Plugged in with the laptop, aldl and tunerpro and appropriate adx and xdf. I wanted to check and set my iac steps to 30, i read some where the other day it should be about 30
what is the full process for setting the iac steps? I was using the small grub screw beside it?
This car does have a memcal installed if that means any thing about adjusting the iac..

Ill attach the recording i took.

Cheers
Pete

Hi there, I'm guessing no one knows if you can adjust the iac steps?

If so, what procedure is that?

Cheers

Yes you can. With the engine at operating temp and all accessory loads turned off (Lights, radio AC etc) adjust the throttle stop screw until you achieve the desired IAC steps.

Correct, "setting" the IAC step count is a mechanical adjustment.
Using the display in tuner pro as feedback to where it's at currently.

Thanks guys for your reply. Do i have to have the engine running to do this adjustment? how many steps is the iac to be at idle?

I also replaced the iac valve today, now the car is holding the revs just above 2000rpm and doesn't settle.

I'm about to go and have another look now.

Unless i have to make a separate post, is the procedure the same to set the VR v6 iac steps?

cheers

Yes the engine has to be at idle. 20-30 steps is the target range IIRC.

VS V6 does a IAC reset/learn at every key on. The older V6 motors have a specific IAC/idle learn procedure.

For the 3800 V6 motors, to reset the idle you need to hold the engine at 2000rpm for 30 seconds and then let the engine return to idle. Should be done with the engine at operating temp and all accessory loads turned off.
