'808 high speed comms mod
Re: '808 high speed comms mod
You got it holden 202 .Just build 808 hi speed mod as normal and add this between pins 11 & 12 on max 232 .You can check its working ok before connecting to ecm, just power max 232 up and tunerpro should detect cable when using test cable function in preferences.

sweet ... will give it a look see ...
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: '808 high speed comms mod
is it possible to use the '808 + max232 as a replacement for the '082 as the '082 was used in manual VR/VS V8s and wreckers want alot for them if your doing manual conversions. Anyone have any reliability issues with the '808?
Re: '808 high speed comms mod
what about taking an 808 ecu and soldeing the ALDL chip off a dead VS ecotec board like this one.
sorry about the file size, wanted to keep the detail.. anyone know which chip is the ALDL one and if it will work soldering it onto an 808?

I think its U8. Yes that would work but there are also a couple of other surface mount components missing that you'd need to populate. VL400 would have more details. I think he was designing a ALDL interface designed to drop in there on an 808. Im not sure on the progress, so many projects all on the go!
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396
Re: '808 high speed comms mod
You cant use a 808 mod with max232 because the output is 12 v to send data to pc and if you change this to 5v you still need the ecm to rx and tx on one wire.If you switched off vats you could do it though.

Re: '808 high speed comms mod
Yeah I made a small board that connect to the 808, the problem is its really fiddly to install. Will revise the design and make it wire in for a simpler install. The idea was to just solder some small pins to the round pads (not the actual U8 connector pads as they are too small) and drop the ALDL conversion board on the top. You need to jumper one link on the underside of the ECM and the one wire data then appeared on the normal data pin like a '082. It worked ok on the bench

Re: '808 high speed comms mod
I made the circuit according to this: http://datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/MAX220-MAX249.pdf
I used normal electrolytic caps at 1uF, is that right type? I am unable to get it to work. I have jumped the diag link, I am using $12 VR Manual bin (also tried OSE). Anything I am missing?
