Re: Programmable Delco Ignition Module

There are reports that the exposed heatsink coils can go in to a protection mode when dwell exceeds around 8ms. I suspect its also heat related, so sustained running at high dwell values could also contribute. I havnt had this happen on a running engine, and some have used these coils with success on my module. But as its an unknown I wouldn't recommend purchasing them, but if you had a set already then I also wouldn't hesitate to try them.

My pick would be LS2 coils...
D513A (12570616) LS2/LS7 First Design
D514A (12573190) LS2/LS7 Second Design

However LS1 coils are also a great upgrade over the stock setup.

This is unrelated to the module in this thread, you were using a factory LT5 ignition module which uses current sensing feedback for dwell control that the LSx style coils do not provide.

Apologies if my post implied that the coils were being used w ur module. They of course were not.
I was attempting to provide my experience w two types of LSx coils, one of which allowed the motor to idle while the other (heat sink) would not start the motor.

Will a 12558948 set of ls1 coils work? I've picked up 8 for $80 thought it was a bargain. But knowing my luck they won't

looks like a standard LS1 coil, so yes it will work fine.

Can anyone confirm that this is actually the wiring diagram for a 4 wire vt distributor?

That looks correct.

This is from the factory service manual.

There won't be anything to suit, will need to work it out around the wiring for the new ignition module.
