Well I'm working on a Soarer ATM & pissing off hydraulic fans & have a thermal switch out of a EF & thinking I can just use earth through switch to trigger relay for fans?
Not sure if how it will work it has 24k resistance ambient & 3k resistance at 90degrees!
Is there a certain relay I'll have to use or better way to wire it?

Re: Using thermal switch for electric fans
Keep in mind the thermostat switches you can put in the radiator hose and they are adjustable
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Yeah but they suck with the crap rubber bit to fit under hose or cut hose & install doesn't look as neat as this idea IMHO, just so long as it will work!
Re: Using thermal switch for electric fans
3k resistance sounds a bit high?
My alfas use a thermo switch in the radiator and a garden variety relay for the fan, I'll see if I can find the specs on the switch to compare...

Re: Using thermal switch for electric fans
Either its not a switch (maybe a temp sender) or it isn't switched on at 90 degrees, you will need basically zero resistance to switch the relay on. Make sure you use one with a suitable temp for your engine and cooling system

Re: Using thermal switch for electric fans
Yeah it probably is a sender as the ECU may control fans through it for the EF!
Bugger was hoping to use stuff lying around!

Re: Using thermal switch for electric fans
yeah they do go through the ecu and work on resistance just like the commodores do.
