flex ouput to drive temp gauge
flex ouput to drive temp gauge
hey guys are we able to setup the flex outputs with single axis only for say coolant temp only. we've run out of bungs in the manifold and dont really want to go drilling more holes so we want to try and run it off of the ecu coolant temp sensor

Yeah you can and there are a number of ways to do it. Two ways...Dazza92VP wrote:hey guys are we able to setup the flex outputs with single axis only for say coolant temp only.
- Set both x and y axis to coolant temp with the same axis min/max (-40 and 151 is default) and it will follow a straight path from top left to bottom right corners as the temp changes.
- Set both x and y to coolant. On the Y axis set the range to say -40 and -30. You will (hopefully ) never operate below -30 so it will always be using the -30 row. The X axis will then just work like a 2D table and work straight from left to right as the temp changes.
Most temp sensors are looking for a variable resistance sensor that changes with temperature. The gauge supplies a known reference voltage through a known resistor to measure the voltage change across the sensor. The flex output is a digital square wave so even if you low pass filtered that to get a voltage it would need the gauge modified. Would also need to find out the very non-linear response of the original sender and work out if the flex output has the resolution you need (its only 8bits) . The next 12P release supports VT and VY clusters over ALDL if that can work in your setup?Dazza92VP wrote:we've run out of bungs in the manifold and dont really want to go drilling more holes so we want to try and run it off of the ecu coolant temp sensor
Re: flex ouput to drive temp gauge
we are planing on just running a small vdo temp guage. for the response i was just planing on sitting there and putting in a few different voltages in and seeing what the gauge read at. but im guessing theres a bit more to the circuitry than just setting up the flex and running the temp gauge signal wire into the flex output then with even the basic gauges?

Re: flex ouput to drive temp gauge
temp gauge would be looking for a resistance I would think rather than a pulse width signal ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!
