Thinking back, this car has always had a slight imbalance between banks on the fuel trims, wondering now if this car has suffered from a slight miss-fire for a very long time. Now the question is was it the spark plugs or the leads? when I removed the lead on the number 3 pot the spark plug lead terminal stayed on the plug and the crimp fitting looked rather crap, I'm sure I removed the lead by holding the boot and not pulling on the cable so there was no reason for the lead to pull apart like that.

Some engines run quite leaner or richer in one pot or two, some have slightly different timing, one pot on my engine runs leaner than the rest, no4 cyl, no6 and 5 have slightly advanced timing, I was able to muck with the per cylinder timing and picked up a hp or two as well, I had the engine warmed up, then let the engine idle for 5-10mins, then use the plug as a guide for lean/rich and timing difference vs each pot.

This is assuming that all the injectors, leads, coils etc are all working properly so that the difference per cylinder is minimal.

Car got a good run on this week, ended up doing just under 600km for the day and the engine ran really well, the suspension was a different story....

Just fitted new front struts, strut bushes and bearings which has definitely got rid of one knock but now it has developed another although I think it's a sway bar bush as it only happens when steering is near full lock going in/out of a driveway etc.

The passenger side top strut bush was totally shagged, the steel inner was floating in the rubber. The bearing on the other side fell apart to when I took the tension of the spring.

New KYB strut.

Old top strut bush

Nice even strut top gap (was about 10mm with stuffed bush)

So I finally got around to a job that should have been done 18 months ago  , never mind, it's done now.

With the 25mm blower spacer fitted there just over 5mm clearance between the bottom of the strut brace and the fuel rail bracket on top of the blower.
Can anybody see what is fitted incorrectly?

With these most recent maintenance items checked off the car is feeling much nicer to drive again.

ah. the knock. yes catherines VX has that knock as well.
i replaced the Z bar bushes on the front as they were completely flogged out and fell apart on me when i removed them.
all the BJs and other bushes in it appear OK but i've not checked the swaybar chassis bushes or the link pins. might have a look at them. that said i did the tower bearings and struts about 18 months ago.

We work so hard and they don't even notice the improvements....

Yep, I've just trimmed the end off by the MACE cold air intake and radiator cap.
