Cheers mate, I knew you would know.
Might just have to use a standard type bolt/washer. Just wondering how many others will break trying to get em out?

Well I don't think it's a plug fouling issue. This is after a drive and getting it up to temp.
Got the manifold all loosed off. Need to drop the exhaust pipe at the flange under the car so I can rotate the manifold away from the head to get access to the broken bolt. All the bolts look to have some sort of loctite so it's not going to come out easy

Re: Immortalities totally random thread
She's all back together and running. Still up on jack stands as the weather has set in. I'll start on the suspension tomorrow if the weather co-operates.
So there is the culprit. Got it out with some vice grips. There is not corrosion so this is a mechanical failure of the fastener. Cost cutting using smaller bolts? And all back together. I think I'll get some grade 12.9 cap screws and swap these out as there is no reason for these to break like it did unless it's a heat/expansion issue with the cast exhaust manifold.
All the intake valves are clean/white just like the plugs. I guess the lean burn works at keeping shit clean.

Re: Immortalities totally random thread
Got started on the front suspension this morning. Getting the passenger side lower control arm out wasn't to much of an issue. The only issue was the radius arm bush stayed on the radius rod and nut in the control arm. Was completely shagged.
Ended up having the grind the old bush off the radius rod and then still had to bash it off but we got it all back together so we can start on the other side tomorrow.
Life definitely easier with the press in the garage.
Safety first. Wrap something around the object been pressed to stop shit flying everywhere should it go wrong.Ended up having the grind the old bush off the radius rod and then still had to bash it off but we got it all back together so we can start on the other side tomorrow.

ARP exhaust bolts ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: Immortalities totally random thread
Yesterday was a rather bland miserable day but managed to get the drivers side lower control arm out. Fortunately only took about 25 minutes and the radius rod came straight out of the arm.
Today we went from this, To that in about 20 minutes. Just need to drop her down on all fours and torque the relevant bolts to spec.
Then about 2.5 hours later I ended up with this... Plan is to do all the bushes and then tackle the diff. We still need to clean everything properly and assemble it. Not sure yet how we are going to wash it all as I don't have a parts bath at home but we are going to figure something out as I really don't want to go through this again.

Probably a bit exxy for a daily driver. Cap screws will do me fine.Holden202T wrote:ARP exhaust bolts ?

Re: Immortalities totally random thread
when considering the price you need to take into account the amount of effort needed for the snapped one, if it was to happen again would you prefer to do it all again or have put ARP's in
your right they arn't cheap!

Re: Immortalities totally random thread
Slightly productive day. Started with stripping the subframe down to it's major components and removing the main subframe to chassis bushes.
Then we put all new Superpro bushes in and assembled the arms back onto the subframe. Tomorrow we start on the diff build.
Then pressed out all the old bushes. This been the later style rear subframe with the extra toe link arms it had these weird voided bushes on the one side with the body been some sort of plastic/fibre mix which did not want to come out. Then we put all new Superpro bushes in and assembled the arms back onto the subframe. Tomorrow we start on the diff build.
All true. Standard ARP are rated about the same as grade 12.9 cap screws so I'm confident they will do the job. It's a bit of a mute point as I can't get anything atm. I figure if I'm going to do it again I way as well do all the exhaust bolts on throw on a set of headers at the same time. This covid19 shit better hurry up cause I can't really buy any shit until I start working again assuming I still have a job after all of this.Holden202T wrote:when considering the price you need to take into account the amount of effort needed for the snapped one, if it was to happen again would you prefer to do it all again or have put ARP's in
