Re: Bright - Queens Birthday Weekend
Nice, is it the shutter speed/time that helps make the water look like that?

yeah that would be a time exposure to collect those sweet sweet photons.
I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.

yes mate, anything over a 1 second exposure will help the water go like that.
it was late day and shooting with a CPL (circular polarising filter) - got me 2.5 seconds. i also stopped it up to f13 as its a scenery shot which closes the apeture which means you have to have a longer exposure to capture the image with the right amount of light.
hence why the water becomes way soft.
took a while to get this as there was lots of people (pollution as I call them) before it was clear.

ha. they detract from the photo. you just have to be patient. irony is that as i am getting older i'm lacking patience LOL. photography is teaching me some
theres also ND filters you can get with different 'stopping' these days which darken what your lens sees, and, as a result lets you run a longer exposure (in daytime)
you may see pics with blurred /softened clouds - this is one of the things thats used to do that.
not sure i'm entirely a fan of some of the pictures as they look a little off to me with the blurred clouds ; the exposures just simply too long. my friend shoots some stuff but he seems to get an OK balance, i think with his 10 stop ND his expsoures are about 5 minutes or so (300 seconds)
you should be able to see it

Re: Bright - Queens Birthday Weekend Photos
The thing that, to me, makes pics like this so good is the silkiness of the water but also the sheer clarity of the hard surfaces. The rock in the picture above has so much detail that I doubt, and this is coming from someone who doesn't take photos, you'd get without a longer exposure time.

Re: Bright - Queens Birthday Weekend Photos
so the type of camera, lens and sensor type has a bit to do with it too, but, for the most of it, the longer the shutter is open for it to take the photo, the more definition it can capture.

its just a little long is this one (0.5 sec) but i underexposed it on my camera when i took it. the tree on the right is borderline.
