My boys play online games and they have been having major issues with lagging today, so bad they have given up playing. Apparently netfix is slow today as well and I have noticed things have been uploading slower than usual as well.

Interesting times ahead.

lol yeah. I bet AMD are rubbing their hands together, could not be better timing for them. They have been doing really well with server market share with the new Epyc processors and I bet they are going to smash the market now with their increasing trust and smashing out better and better products, exceeding performance targets, at great value and ahead of schedule while intel constantly having failures after failures and bad marketing decisions left, right, center. How have the tables turned lol, its like 1998 all over again, ironic considering VIA announced they are going to have a crack at the mainstream desktop X86 market, VIA is literally Cyrix from back then that were absorbed into the VIA tech group, that's how they hold the X86 license.

Gen 2 Ryzen are coming April and so my wait will be over soon. From the very beginning of the first Zen launch I decided to wait for the refresh as I believe there will be worth while gains and be an exceptional CPU for a good price. Always the 2nd gen is much better on a brand new architecture.

Will be interesting to see how gen2 ryzen does, I have standard 6 core ryzen at 3.8ghz and 1440p gaming I haven't seen a game yet to Max overall core useage past 30% or so.

yeah I'm keen to get one. I currently have a water cooled FX8320 at 4.1 games do well except for one. its more of a simulator though. Universe sandbox 2, most of the heavy physics simulations max all 8 cores at full 100% and physics steps and FPS drops down to 1-2 steps/FPS lol and all interrupts get blocked out and I can't do anything, can't even close it sometimes as the keyboard can't call an interrupt its that taxed. :comp:

I need to go straight to a beastly number crunching CPU with tons of core. This sim scales 100% with all 8 cores so I can see it scale well beyond 16 no probs.

I think pretty much everything with speculative execution is vulnerable to spectre, and there isnt much you can do at the microcode level because its an issue with super scalar instruction re-ordering and the effect on the cache. This post from the rasbery pi foundation is a good way of describing it. Even power pc is affected. The full affects of this will be with is for a long time. It'll take architectural fixes in super scalar processors to fix it properly. Meltdown was not a cache sidechannel attack like spectre though. Intel CPUs are broken big time at the instruction security level, all others have a less significant but real hardware design oversight.

If you want to know how deep the rabit hole goes, I was just forwarded this link to the linux kernel mailing list which provides some detail about the latest microcode and patches and the partial mitigation of spectre variant 2. Dry reading, and very very 'nuts and bolts'. Interesting none the less. https://lwn.net/Articles/743019/

yeah not surprising.

Interesting there is a class action again AMD as well, claiming they lied about their vulnerability and changed their story from the initial statements.

From AMD's official statement, from the very first to the latest ones its exactly the same statements, except the latest ones include more info on the status of the patches etc.. I don't see any form of misleading what so ever.

From what I have read, this is some bogus class action jumping on the band wagon of lawsuits against Intel but in an attempt to skim money from AMD. All I can say is good luck to that standing up in court lol. Unfortunately for Intel they are kinda screwed on that.

Also new zen+ CPUs coming out April. Can't wait! getting one of those for sure.

Lets hope they have a decent uplift in OCing ability.
