hcci diesel engines

Post by jenko »

Does anyone find the move of diesel engines toward HCCI ,strange with the fact that they claim better performance over direct injection whereas petrol engine design is claiming better performance with direct injection. WTF

As far as I know all HCCI engines, petrol or diesel, are direct injection. I haven't actually heard much about them being used in diesel applications.

HCCI means a pre-mixed charge is ignited throughout the whole cylinder simultaneously by compression. Which combines the good parts of both petrol and diesel (premixed homogenized charge of a petrol, ignited by compression like a diesel but without the lean flame front of the fuel igniting as its squirting out of the injector into the cylinder).

Can anyone link me to some reading on HCCI diesel?
I love reading up about tech like this
