vl turbo tuning solution

I have a friend with a vl turbo with intercooler cam turbo upgrades etc looking for the best solution for helping him out tuning it.
I have looked into nistune.
Does the moates ostrich work as he doesn't have a lot to spend i was thinking the ostrich might be ok for me to keep for my vt sc afterwards .
Or is their anything like the nvram for live tuning on the vl turbo.

moates will work for realtiming, but youll need nistune if you want any datalogging. the stock eccs ecu doesnt have any at all.

nistune actually adds datalogging, and replaces the chip with nvram for realtime tuning.
