Thought this might come in handy for those restoring old rusty holdens.
Alternative to sandblasting

Re: diy rust removal
i've seen a 4 cylinder block rusty as hell inside and out go into this for a few weeks and come out nearly looking like a brand new casting!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: diy rust removal
yeah but alot of the stuff im doing is part molasis! and the rest of it panel and paint wise is good!
although i'd love to try it on Marie's EH, its got a boot on it thats all surface rust, i reckon it'd come up mint!
i like the zinc coating too! alot of the rust repair stuff i've been doing over the last few weeks it zinc coated and its unreal compared to straight steel that rusts just from looking at it!

Re: diy rust removal
I'm suitably impressed, looks like a natural product that actually works for a change. I like the fact that you dont have to worry about disposing of it too much now that we have to at least appear to give a shit about the environment. If its as good on an old cast iron block as holden202 reckons i wonder what its like with alloy heads etc. ?? Very interested in finding out that one.
Being a dedicated Bourbon drinker its good to see a use for molasses other than Rum which does not agree with me so i'm toldn

Has anyone tried Evaporust? its on special at SuperCheap this weekend. Even with the special it gets pretty expensive when you need a lot for bigger parts.
Also seen good results with molasses, is there any drawbacks with it though?

Lol, didn't know this thread existed? funny, I learned from that exact video back about when this thread started but that was before I joined here.
I just sand blast these days, way less mucking around and also eliminates hydrogen embrittlement and better results to boot. Also way faster turn around.

I'm the director of VSH (Vlad's Spec Holden), because HSV were doing it ass about.
Re: diy rust removal
is hydrogen embrittlement a risk with the molasses treatment?
