Re: Shadow Password E98, E39, E39A
What is the shadow password used for? It sounds like a bootloader recovery unlock so that if the PCM is bricked then it is still locked but recovery can be unlocked with the shadow password. Is this correct?

Re: Shadow Password E98, E39, E39A
this is the password to enter recovery mode
each instance of the block has its own password
I can recover this password from the label
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_pUh09WVD0
if the block died during programming and does not respond to commands
or if, for example, the tuner protected the block from reading
knowing the password you will be able to read and write the correct firmware
etc

We have come across a few instances of needing the password, usually quicker to program a donor ecu to car. Would love to revive the few dead ecus we have.

A big thank you to kostia111, he provided the correct password for us to recover our bricked ECU saving buying and programming another. FYI there is no other way of calculating the password other than from the label itself. EEPROM/Flash etc are all useless.

I don't know how to edit the topic title
and the first message.
It is now also possible to calculate the password using the label for E84 modules.

You edit the first post of the thread, and change the title there. I've done it for you.
