D1928A/D1998A Questions

Post by Sam »

A couple of questions before I pull the trigger on a purchase:

1. D1928A is suggested somewhere as the right module for a 6cyl DIS conversion, but doesn't appear to be available new - is D1998A the replacement part?
2. There seems to be a big price disparity by vendor - US$35-40 for an aftermarket module vs US$150-220 for genuine. Last time I bought an aftermarket HEI module it lasted a whole 18 months, but does anyone have any experience with these? I mean I could buy two spares and still end up ahead...

1. yes
2. probably ok, but potentially and miss. Have seen 1 fail (doa) out of a sample size of 3 personally. Have not heard of others. IMHO get 2 and have a spare if the first one works (which it probably will).

Far simpler trigger pattern. The rodeo v6 has the american model style but its rare at the wreckers and pricey from the oem if they have it. If you have a commodore engine stick with the aussie stuff. If your fitting to another engine use these modules or get a VL400 ignition module for more aftermarket trigger options, ref angle options and coil options.
