Re: BennVenn's VW Delco Conversion
Thanks. I'll do a bit of logging this weekend before I strip it all back down. It'll be good to have a benchmark.

Re: BennVenn's VW Delco Conversion
A bit of a fork in road...
I LOVE the look of this. It needs a red secondary throttle plate for that authentic look. The distributor can't stay. I figure i could halve the height of the camira dizzy by chopping off the posts and remove the rotor. Just need to finish wiring in the coil packs and a sensor.
Or I can scrap the TBI and cast a 90deg flange and bolt on a pulsar TB. There will then be enough clearance for the deck lid. And ill get to try port injection (thanks for the parts Antus! )
Options!!! While I mull that over I'll crack on with the coil pack conversion....

Re: BennVenn's VW Delco Conversion
Total dizzy height is 56mm. Much better!
Now I'm thinking can I grind the lobes of the reluctor and install a second 90deg out of phase...
Optics seem easier.
Going to build a bench setup of the dizzy, ecu and coils. Don't want any surprises with 6psi of fuel/air in the manifold.
Re: BennVenn's VW Delco Conversion
Have you got a building permit for that motor ! Tallest bug I've seen

Have you spoken to Henry Spickak about this conversion?

Re: BennVenn's VW Delco Conversion
Not sure who that is... googling his name led me to the nsw vw club?
Just ordered opto's with inbuilt buffers from RS components. I'll keep the camira module to keep the ecu happy and gate the coil drive with the opto.
Previous experiments with this jetta coil pack showed it had a weak spark compared to the bosch so ill need to keep a close eye on afr's.

Re: BennVenn's VW Delco Conversion
I know your building that trigger system for the fun of it, but looking at the first pic it would be heaps easier to put an abs sensor and some notches on the balancer and run an off the shelf (by imported) D1927A module with commodore coils. If you look this up on ebay look out for the mislabeled one that has 2 instead of 3 connectors - the D1927A has 3 connectors. The connectors are rare but you should be able to rig something up or find them on a 1990s v6 rodeo which uses the 6 cylinder version of the same trigger system.
Edit: the 6 cyl connector looks to be available now from here: https://www.eficonnection.com/eficonnec ... ItemId=292 and the 3 pin here: https://www.eficonnection.com/eficonnec ... ItemId=564 still cant find the power one, though.
