This is how we did it on a datsun L20A (6cyl). The sensor is an ABS sensor off a VT commodore and the pattern is notched in to the balancer. What the balancer is made of and the space available could be limiting factors but as you might be able to notch the balancer to suit the location of the sensor its pretty flexible.

Dont rule out the VL400 ignition module either, that does support a programmable reference angle for cranking which you could utilize if angles and spacing become a problem. Can run ls1 coils then too.

If you can get a pic of the trigger disc I can check if the existing pattern decoders in my module support it, if not can easily add a new one. The pattern could be a ref+sync like other Mazdas of that era which it already supports.

The hardware supports reluctor, optical and hall triggers which the CAS will be one of.

I had read of the threads you linked.

The sensor setup is pretty compact and utilising the front pulley is a good way to avoid extra stuff.

Ill see if VL400 can do something with the mazda stuff, else ill roll with your pulley setup.

Ill have to go and get it rebalanced afterwards, but that's no biggie.
Did you ever get your rebalanced? I saw in the thread that you didn't bother and didn't seem to have any unwanted vibrations.

Yeah no rebalance, no problems. The holes all have a matching pair except the cyl 1 mark and you can see we drilled a hole opposite a bit closer to the centre where the sensor cant see it just to keep it approximately balanced. Didnt notice or feel any vibration. I reckon the vl400 will be better for features and because of the increasing difficulty/price of the factory 4 cyl coilpack modules.

In the last two pics I marked the disk so ou could see all the markings and know where they are in reference.

Its a mitsubishi part, # T1T49171 B61P 0205

I will be picking up a complete and running N13 Pulsar on Monday for near nix

So i should now have 90% of the bits I need for this conversion.

So, picked up the Pulsating Pulsar on Monday.

Runs and drives well still. Idles a bit high, but still goes well.

It is almost a pity that I will be stripping it for the electrics.
It would make a good bush basher, or even a nifty shooting rig. Still, its never going to be road registerable. The cancer is very well entrenched.

It did come with a CD wallet full of CDs, of a reasonable variety, so I'll be going through them to see if any of them play.

Unfortunately, the BCM did not have a sticker to identify it exactly, but I am pretty certain it's the right one (808)


Once I have it out, Ill open-er-up for a capt'n cook, and see if i can find some identifying numbers on the inside.

The trigger pattern isnt in the current firmware but cant see any reason it cannot be added easily. Hardware will support it, just a simple firmware addition.

Good news that you think its an easy addition to your ignition unit.
No panic on getting that setup for me VL400. The motor is not yet together - still waiting on a few parts to come in before assembly. - hopefully soon.
Hec, I'm still to strip out the Pulsar for the stuff i need.

Just file it into the list of upgrades when you do your next batch run for your module.
