You have my word. It will be done - timeline variable to be honest, but done regardless.

I'm sure you have heard that before, but it will happen. I'm aiming to have it licensed by Xmas 2018. That was the challenge laid down by the missus. How can I let her down? :thumbup:

In all honestly, this project has been running for nearly 10 years now. I've had quite a few holdups over that time, but things are back on the straight and narrow now, so its plausible to have it done by xmas this year.

Ill generally keep what I post here to the Delco stuff, with the mechanical stuff over at my Datsun haunt (see link in my sig) and at the Mazda page for their technical knowledge. It is a datsun build after all.

I have also got some very good friends that I can call on to help out when push comes to shove, so its is actually possible.

Quick question on MAP sensors.

Jumped on FleaBay just to get a gauge on MAP sensors.

Is this the right thing I need?

Are the fleabay specials OK, or hit and miss and I am just better getting to my local auto parts shop and order a genuine Delco unit?

They all say they are delco 'style' - I assume that means cheap knockoffs.

This is one that claims to be genuine Delco.
At twice the price of the unit above, thats about right.

So does it really matter what sensor you use?

I was thinking that it would need to be a genuine Delco unit for the Delco computer to read it, or at least a direct replacement unit.

The autometer part looks like a direct replacement part for the delco when you look at the pictures, but then so do the ebay specials....

Does it matter where the sensor lives?
The original one plugs direct into the manifold with a rubber bung?
Can I install a nipple in the manifold, run some hose and have the sensor elsewhere?

When I installed the turbo on my diesel I used a remote sensor (installed under the dash) for the guages I installed, and whilst exact boost amount or accuracy is less important with the ute, it seems to be fine with a remote sensor.

I suppose longer tubing will have some disadvantage to reaction time but it would have to be long. Connect anywhere you will get full manifold vacuum at idle. Directly to the manifold is best because some of the ports on a GM throttle body don't get manifold vacuum.

The length of the hose would only be about 1.5m by the time its pinned back to a wiring harness, through the firewall and under the dash. (the Datsun 1000 is not a big car).

That is the intake I'm using
Alternatively to an under dash sensor, I could use one of the vacuum ports already there with a short hose and fix the sensor to the manifold. Maybe tap a hole in the back end above number 4 runner.
Pretty sure Ill have to block holes off anyways as I wont have as much stuff connected for my motor.

Not sure what TB ill be using. I do have a vx commodore unit sitting around, but that will be too big i suspect, making throttle response hard to tune when too much air flows in just off idle. A 3.8l TB vs the 1.5l motor - just a little over-sized!

Was hoping to use the Mazda TB, sans MAF sensor, (for bolting simplicity to the Mazda manifold and its for a 1.6l) but I'm not sure if the TPS on the Mazda unit will work with the delco 808. If it doesn't, ill make something that does behave with the delco fit. An adaptor plate, whilst fiddly, is easy enough to make.

Not sure what the Mazda throttle switch is but you need a variable resistor type that matches a Delco. As far as throttle bodies I used a VN on a 2 Litre engine and it's perfect with throttle response but I understand your concerns. The Vectra had what I consider a dam built into half the manifold so that the progressive opening of the throttle was very small on one side and open on the other so you may be able to weld up the opening on one side of the throttle plate to achieve just that.
Why do you want to put the map sensor inside the car?

Have a look in the thread Delcowizzid linked to if you havnt already. The ebay specials look the goods on the outside, inside is a very different story. Its very difficult to get a quality replacement these days.

Data sheets here (and likely a reputable source for a sensor) show what the signal needs to be. Anything with the same voltage vs pressure work...
