I just hope it doesn't nose over with that big ol engine hanging off it ...

Beats a std crane when working on the dirt!heff0018 wrote:That’s a handy engine crane
Tested it with the motor, me and my brother hanging off the front before we got under it. The forklift makes for a handy car lift.Gampy wrote:I just hope it doesn't nose over with that big ol engine hanging off it ...

So, it's an LSD diff. Has clutch packs are on the passenger side only which is why it was so stiff in gear. The Cv wasn't driven into the spiders, just the lsd splines. Reinserting it all the way did the trick.
Now to reassemble the hubs, get the dash out to replace the loom and find out where all these spare bolts belong

I was being funny ... I doubt that motor could tip that mini even at full reach, especially with the blade down.BennVenn wrote:Tested it with the motor, me and my brother hanging off the front before we got under it. Ahh thought you meant the car tipping forward off the forklift when the motor goes back in... That was the only sketchy part of this whole swap.
Good news is its all back together and running! Need some gear oil, coolant and exhaust gaskets and then out with the entire dashboard to get the 1.8L loom in. Fingers crossed the laser cut flanges arrive by the weekend along with the steampipe and we'll get this build started

It just doesn't end...
LSD CV splines are larger than Non-LSD. They're just spinning in the diff. If i get LSD CV's, will they fit the non-lsd hubs?

You must've bagged a chinaman lol.
That cog-chest is still a unknown Q.
Swap in the other one as previously planned?
Hope that hand is holding up....

Yeah, it's either the gearbox swap which is a whole lot of effort, or new CV shafts which is only a 20min job.
I Just pulled the passenger side shaft out, no apparant damage to the splines on the diff or shaft. If the drivers side is the same I might just order a set from eBay.
There's only one part number for the Hub assembly so fingers crossed they're universal between LSD and non-LSD cars.
In other news, my VNT electronic acutator arrived and is in town waiting for me!
