Just out of curiosity why are you running 91 octane in it when you had it on the dyno? My stock engine gets knock counts on 91 when I ran it for shits n giggles to Se if my knock sensor was working if you spend the time and effort tuning it why not on 95 you can buy any where or even 98 espically if you have to fork out $ For a dyno run.

Well the way i see it is its only a std engine with 8.5:1 comp it wouldnt see the full benefit of 98 unless it was cammed or had higher comp sure it might make a bit more power but my dyno guy was pretty suprised saying it made more power than what he thought the combo would. Also i know of a vr with a 286 ported shaved heads etc that made almost identical power so i.m happy with its power as ive spent alot of time tuning so i dont get any knock counts on 91.

i agree, if you can tune your car to run fine on 91 then its preferable as far as cost of fuel .....

for example, my alloytec v6 when run on 98 octane gets slightly better economy than on 91, but its about halfway between the price increase, so you still end up spending more per km travelled than on 91 ... that said i will always use 98 when towing etc.

Yeah true with the price of fuel not getting any cheaper too.
I guess you can always make two maps one for 91 and one for 98 since delcohacking has given us the technology :)

More octane does not always mean more HP. Nice looking car hot308vb and some great results

True vl400 some stock cars wouldnt give a higher HP figure on higher octane fuel.
But you have the ability to add more timing on a higher octane fuel before it pings and more timing = more tourqe.
Not just in the top end but all over the rev range.

Great effort hot308vb wasn't having a dig,
I wonder what the difference in power curves would be if it was tuned on 98?

Has any one had any experiences where 98 was no better then 91 on a dyno run?

only real experience i've had was with a stock compression Ecotec, 91 octane tune and no knocking, then 98 octane spark map on the same combo and there was definately a bit more to be had, as far as figures i can only guess that the seat of the pants felt maybe 5hp gain .... but none of this was done on the dyno either!

i wouldnt even run 91 in my lawnmower LOL its actually full of avgas at the moment :driving: and theres no real need for 98 i run close to 300rwkw turboed v6's on 95 octane daily no worries
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

Progress has been very slow lately due to us buying a house 12 months ago and setting up the shed etc, not to mention doing numerous fixit jobs for family members.
But I've updated the list to current specs!
