I have been putting this off for years. I got the last front door belts out of a guy who cleared out written off stock out of Holden about 6 years ago. He had one right front left and a bunch of left front ones. I took them all to make a set of 4 since the rears were NLA long before 2012 when I got these.

So I probably had the only few left in the country still in packets.

I got this saw blade for the job and took a few practice shots of cutting on my old front ones. Cut like butter.

IMG_0736.JPG

I measured lots of times and nutted out the right compound angle. 10º horizontal, 5º vertical. 50 times checked :study: (only one shot at this)

Cut them all and I got it right, thank fuck! :?

Then having to hand cut the opening for the quarter glass mould, just as nerve racking. But I got them right too. I see they were hand cut in the factory as well but probably used a template. I just measured and marked it and tongue out the right way and... easy easy, don't slip!

Glad that's over and I didn't fuck up lol. I cut out a square on the rear back corners inside the mould as the original to clear the rear lip on the door.

I still need to use a hole punch and punch a semi circle on the inside edge for the screw opening where the fixing screw goes on a plastic bracket. I need to also install those brackets and the retaining clips. But now it's on the safe and easy parts. Last of all is the end caps. I have a stack of good used ones for that.

Anyway, nothing like cutting unobtanium NOS parts on a compound saw :shh:

If anyone looks for misc small and common replacements parts for the V6, Melling in the states do many of them, from welsh plug kits (includes oil gallery ones) to oil pump kits to stock billet cams, to valves etc...

https://www.melling.com/parts-lookup/

I look under Buick and regal or similar that used the 3800. They even have the 1-2 year only oil pumps and guides as well which is great, not longer have to try find NOS hard to get parts.

Sorted out the cowl cover.

Removed the shit wire mesh ends that were common on the replacement genuine units and riveted in the original plastic ones.

Fitted it in but I must of tossed the retaining clips out because I thought the new cover came with them but it didn't so I need to get some from the wreckers.

I still got it in nicely and fitted the wipers.
