Depends on the bore diameter which dictates the resonate frequency that knock produces. The larger the bore the lower the frequency.

For our engines expect somewhere in the 5Khz range.

I would suggest a tunable band pass circuit. My idea was to get a stereo graphical equalizer with built in pre amp. Knock sensor in, headphones out and theoretically call it done.

Or perhaps another quality item VL400 could make to sell? I know I would buy in a heartbeat.

5.9Khz based on 97mm
my R/C will filter everything below 5894.6275219221Hz give or take depending on the resistor and capacitor accuracy/values. could hook it up to my DSO and test it i spose.
either way my HPF will filter everything below that.
it was also suggested to use clamping diodes on the input with reference to voltage so if the sensor is dropped while powered on, it doesn't send a stupid amount of volts to the IC and blow it up.

yeah those piezo crystals make some nice sparks when hit hard enough, few to 10s of Kv is not uncommon.

in other news finished my ESR meter
well the other one any way

Image

so you might ask, what does this do?
it is for testing capacitors in (and out) of circuit. oh it also can check resistors.
ESR = equivalent series resistance
as a capacitor gets old its resistance will decrease towards zero where, when it entirely fails it will become a dead short (zero ohms) and then the smoke will exit wires (or fuses below depnding on how well engineered the cct is)
there is wizardry well beyond my comprehension at this stage that can be absorbed from here : http://www.users.on.net/~endsodds/esr.htm
Jim is a lovely fellow and very knowledgable.

i built this alongside the Jaycar/Altronics ESR meter which is completely famous. always good to have a couple of these in your tool chest/bag

this. is a thing. a thing due on friday.
Screen Shot 2018-05-02 at 8.54.31 am.png
i have had (forever) a china turbo sitting in my back shed, t03 flange and a heap of weld els (sched 40 bends) and respective -10 hose and weld on fittings, 1/8NPT and dash 4 braided line. i think my weld on fitting *might* be ms and not ally for the ecotec sump though. not that that is much of a problem.

scheduled to go on the VT race car / other VX looking thing i have.

someone said why don't you have anything modified. DAMMIT.

also ; looking for a VN V6 loom, does anyone haz one they do not need?
Cheers,

Put a Buick and turbo it. Buick is a much more robust engine in stock form and even boosted if you wanted to take that path.
