Re: Firebug's V6 Gemini
yeah the alloy wasn't too bad, we didn't probably do proper cleaning of it either, we certainly did on the top section though cause it had been polished, could smell the prep wash burning when i welded it though too!
my brother and i want to make a new surge tank for the his gemini, this has gotten me keen to have a play

Once have the toys it's rude not to experiment.
It looks like there is a hole in the 2nd pic, in the last puddle or is it just the light?

Aluminium has to be spotless to get a good weld, the weld looks a bit cold, get some scrap same thickness and practice, atleast your practicing on someone else’s stuff so that’s a start lol and have some reference as it helps !

Always better not to have too much blood in your alcohol system when you're sewing with fire...

Re: Firebug's V6 Gemini
Got most of it back together this afternoon. Still need to put a matching plug on the new fan and pressure test the radiator after welding the tabs to it. Not much more available room now between the fan and engine, but that follows the theme of the rest of the car...

Some good welding on that aluminium, if you can even call it that! Its horrible to weld.
Can jam some extra rod in the puddle and then taper off more slowly at the end of your weld to stop that crater forming.
